Disappointed. Not what I was expecting.

I expected a book full of pictures for identifying pebbles. The cover is attractive but the inside is nothing but words! Interesting information in general terms, I'm sure, if that is what you wanted, but it wasn't clear that this is what the book contains.

  • Inspirational. essential for all British summer holidays. (Sunday Times)

With a foreword by Robert MacfarlanePebble-hunting is a pleasant hobby that makes little demand upon one's patience and still less upon one's physical energy. (You may even enjoy the hunt from the luxurious sloth of a deck chair). • Not as well illustrated............

............as the first edition. Therefore less user friendly as use for field/beach work. Would have been helpful if this had been pointed out. Original edition far better.

  • False pretences

This appears to be a book about pebbles on the beach, but is mainly a dry scientific thesis, rather than a spotters guide

  • Good illustrations.

Illustrations in the front cover very good but I mistakenly thought there would be more in the book. It is very interesting to read about how beaches are formed etc, but not very practical when on a beach when trying to identify a pebble. it is probably a bit too in depth for what I need.
